Listen to
this Interview with Dan JohnI let you have a little insight
last week as to what my good buddy

I was lucky enough to get this
busy man on the phone for an hour
Saturday morning.
Now I have done a couple of
these interviews with Dan

good, but seriously this one
is a real Gem.

I just read my an interview that t-nation
did with my buddy Dan John he's always
very entertaining and informative.
In this interview he was talking about
Tabata protocol and how the 20 on
10 off protocol has been bastardize
to the nth degree.

He also spoke about how he used
to believe Tabata protocol could be
done using 'thrusters'; however he's
now changed his mind and to the believe
that the only legitimate tabata movement
should be front squats.
For front squats I have heard Dan recommend
using somewhere between 95 to 115lbs, for kettlebells you would
probably use 24kg/53lbs for a pretty
equitable training load.

Yep, that is front squats, with weight!I too have noticed a good number of fitness
professionals, over using this protocol
implementing multiple 20 on 10 off
sequences throughout their workous.
I agree with Dan in his saying that when
doing a
True Tabata Protocol you should pretty much dread all parts
of tabata if you have you it set up
properly.
As you may recall a few months back
we did a few sequences tabata front
squats using the kettlebells during
our Friday Meltdown Live Workouts
I dreaded every dang minute of those
tabata workout especially the knot
in your gut right before you push the
'start button'; but it all generally ends
pretty well especially the part where you
realize you didn't actually die.
So when you get the urge to do some
sissy tabata like, jumping jacks, or
push-ups. Just walk on over and
pick up some weight and do some
front squats; and join the team that is
putting the 'dread' back into tabata's.
Feel free to post your best tabata
front squat numbers below, whether
it is with a barbell or kettlebells.
PS - I have a tenatively scheduled interview
with Dan tonight so if you have any
questions send me my way
Enjoy
